Introducing Endurance Riding
to Albrighton Hunt Pony Club Members
By Diane Latham
Heart of England Endurance visited
Robaston College on 29th July, 2009 to meet the children of
the Albrighton Hunt Pony Club during Mini Camp. Jodie Watts is one of
their members and she and Mum, Helen liaised with Robert Lawrence, the
PC camp co-ordinator to make the afternoon happen. Jodie brought Gilly
along and Christine Liggins very kindly agreed to join us and put
together a very informative and helpful talk and demonstration. There
were about 20 children ranging from 7-12 years and several adults, none
of whom knew anything about endurance. We generated a lot of interest
and the children particularly enjoyed listening to Gilly’s heart through
the stethoscope and were intrigued with her tack.

Christine Liggins has her audience captivated
Gilly was a star throughout and
didn’t put a hoof wrong. The weather was not particularly kind but the
only outdoor activity was the short ride we had organised (complete with
orange tape) round the grounds of the College. As the rain battered the
roof of the indoor school, Robert asked who wanted to do the ride. Most
hands shot up and they were all then instructed to tack up their ponies
and assemble in the smaller schooling area in 5 minutes. Jodie and
Louise accompanied the children on the ride mounted, with adults walking
with them on the ground. There were smiles all round upon their return,
when they were all presented with a rosette. We are hoping to put on a
ride locally so that they can get a taste of endurance and this will
possibly be at Cosford (but not at the same time as the EGB ride in
September). We will run a PC ride, all branches welcome, which will be
vetted, alongside a pleasure/training ride which will not be vetted.
Everyone is welcome. We will put more information on the web site when
organised.

Gilly and members of the Albrighton Hunt Pony Club

Prize Giving Evening Saturday
10th January 2009
By Jane Sparrey
On
Saturday 10th January we held the Annual Meeting and Prize Giving, this
year at a new to us venue, Whartons Park Golf Club, near Bewdley. Thirty
Nine of us sat down for the meal and a few extras attended just for the
meeting and Prize giving.
The usual short Annual Meeting did not want to stop this year as there
was so much news on the agenda. Three committee members were to come off
the committee, but a couple of replacements were soon mooted – we
welcomed Frankey Turley and Helen Watts as a new Committee members and Lisa Giovine’s
position was officialised.
Marion (Treasurer) got up to speak about the poor
state of the Heart of England Group’s finances, only to be reassured by
Di Latham, that she had bought along Money for the Kitty – proceeds of
the Mince Pie Ride, and by me, that I had over the last few days banked
lots for the Meal tickets. We later announced another £129 had been
garnered from the evenings’ Raffle and Bonus Ball Prize Pot (Camilla won
the £10, what a great, on the spot competition, that proved to be.)
Back
to the meeting , and Lisa had lots of lively information about the new
Website. Very active discussion followed with people firing questions at
Lisa, and Lisa suddenly remembering something else, and later in the
evening the Golf Club allowed access to their computer for Lisa to
demonstrate the new site at first hand – well, that golf club office has
never been so crowded!
So we had to wind up the meeting and go onto
the Prize Giving suffice to say all the results will be published
elsewhere, so I’m not going to go into that. With many thanks to Karen
Abram who works really hard to collate the results, keep track of the
trophies, and organise fabulous rosettes for the winners.
So
by about 8.30 the business done, we had time for a chat, in fact we were
all milling about and the Golf Club Staff were despairing of us ever
sitting down for our meal.
Control was established, however, and we were all
very pleased with our food. The timing was very good, we were not
hurried through the courses, and the general scene was very enjoyable to
be part of , a happy, noisy, chatty background prevailed all evening.
